To the shores of lake placid

Al Usher : gnanfou

Mark Ronson Ft Daniel Merryweather : stop me (Chicken lips malfunction mix)

DAZIBAO June 1989 - Théatre Mouffetard - The 'my taylor is a taylorist' nigtht

No pity, no rest, I was chain gigging ... what happened to me? Fuck! That was the first breach of the festival and the second one after the pixies' concert. I didn't really get on Dazibao. There was something quite oppressing, quite intense about this cold wave band and it's arab singer, who sold books in front of the big parisian stores Galerie Lafayette, but it was that same feeling that failed me to get in their music. Too serious perhaps?

PIXIES June 1989 - Bataclan - The 'gig stakhanovist' night

The gig frenzy? The irresistible desire to raise my credibility? The obsession to be everywhere and didn't miss anything or the feeling that now was the time to see them or never again? Who knows ...? But let's stick to the subject. I'd like to tell you it was good but that wasn't the case. The band is ok, but a bit untidy, a bit too heavy ... the sound was crap and you couldn't catch the beauty of the songs as on the LP ... the fear to loose my credibility? The gig overdose? Am I a professionnal gig goer ... ?

KNI CRIK June 1989 - Théatre Mouffetard - The 'cosmic indians' night

Second night with an astonishing tribal band. Kni crik were dressed as indians with huge drums, horns and a dirty guitar. Like fellow band Nox, their music leads toward an ethno industrial trance that makes you loose yourself in. Metallic rhythms and ethnic chants inspired by north american indians to end in a post nuclear free jazz fanfare ... simply excellent. It makes the difference with french alternative and seventies revivalist bands.

I LOVE THE OUTWARD APPEARRANCE

NOX June 1989 - theatre Mouffetard - The 'forgemasters' night

Venturing on a rumour at this mini french bands one week rock festival, was very risky. I was persuaded that french bands = crap bands. Yet, it was quite a surprise. Nox wasn't the common french band. Their music was formed by human rumbles and tribal metallic rhythmics, accompanied by a dirty guitar, a real adrenalin charge ... simply excellent!

CRIME & THE CITY SOLUTION June 1989 - rex club - The 'mythes or mites of rock' night

Another one of this saturday night concert and ... the first part was simply mythic! (You need to be french to appreciate) The crypto writer rock star Eudeline and Laurent Sinclair former taxi girl's keyboard player made quite a stirring appearance. Eudeline, all leather, white shirt BHL style (french phlilosopher Bernard Henry Levy) chained all the most cliché rock'n'roll pauses known on earth, falling on his knees every two minutes, playing Bowie or Jagger. Eudeline finished the gig booed by the crowd, drowned under a shower of pennies throwned in a gesture of mockery. Only Daniel Darc (former singer of Taxi Girl) at the first row seemed to really enjoy the Eudelinesque parody. After this, Crime & the City solution were quite fake. Not bad but really borring with a girl playing violin and ..... Stoooop!!! I think I'll never be a Nick Cave devotee.

DOMINIC SONIC May 1989 - Rex club - The 'I'm so bored in Paris' night

Not really a fan ... just following friends on a saturday night ... Paris nightlife bla bla bla ... better to be here with my mates than home alone. The concert was neither good nor bad. I didn't feel interested at all. To tell you the truth I feel relieved when it was over.
