WEATHER PROPHETS / PASTELS / DURUTTI COLUMN October 1988 - Cigale - The 'old and new' night

As Weather prophets entered the scene, a Kirk Brandon clone screamed 'play heavy and well!' 2 minutes later they did as requested and the same Brandon lookalike went on 'Fuck! It's better than the record!'. Good muscled pop to warm a very cold crowd, but also a bit flat to tell you the truth ... you won't forget this Steven little boy, I tell you. 'This song begins here and ends here, yeah!' ... it's speedy, it's noisy, it moves me. The crowd asked for 'I wonder why' between each song. He refused to play the song each time with a sardonic smile, then pretended to start it, then he stopped ... the same sardonic smile and ... he let it start. I was extatic! ... Durutti column were three guitarists, an organ player and a fat percussionist who seemed to have been picked up in the streets of Pigalle in front of the hall. Circling Synths, crystalline guitars ... the crowd loved it but it was a bit soporific after the pastels.

"This song begins here and ends here, yeah!"...c'est speed, c'est noisy pop, ça bouge.
