IAN Mc CULLOCH November 1989 - Liverpool Royal Academy - The 'Mecca' night

I didn’t only came to Liverpool to see Big Mac live, but. It was here at home that Mac was the most at ease, very complice of his public and as soon as he appears on stage people started to wind him up from everywhere ‘you look like Robert smith! You’re fat now!’. Ian laugh with them, relaxed. (in fact this dark romantic new wave icon is quite a funny guy when you get to know him, he never stopped) My god that’s it I told it (Yes Arnaud Viviant you didn’t know me but you’re a bit like Christophe Colomb regarding Mac and me a bit like Erik Le Rouge ... take it easy). The gig started on the wheels of heels. Tonight will be a no fault concert, everybody knew it, from the dancing new order style songs with stroboscopic effects and fumes to the new versions of ‘the cutter’ and the marvellous ‘killing moon’. The crowd went totally crazy singing along him, getting in football chants ‘liverpool, liverpool, liverpool’alternating with ‘yeah yeah ian, yeah yeah ian, yeah yeah ian’ and to finally sing ‘get on the fucking stage’ for the encore. Je n'étais pas venu à Liverpool seulement pour voir big Mac en concert, quoiqu'un peu quand même. C'est sans doute ici, chez lui, que Ian est le plus à l'aise, complice avec son public et dès son entrée en scène les vannes fusent de partout : "you look like Robert Smith, you're fat now!". Ian Mac Culloch se marre, relax (faut dire que cette icône new wave est un type hyper marrant quand on sympathise avec lui (Ca y est j'ai laché le morceau!). Eh oui Arnaud Viviant tu ne me connais pas mais tu es un peu Christophe Colomb et moi Erik le rouge...et toc!). Le concert commence sur des chapeaux de roues. Ce soir ce sera un sans faute, tout le monde le sait, des nouveaux morceaux new ordiens avec fumigènes et stroboscopes aux reprises de "the cutter" ou du sublime "killing moon". Dans la salle c'est le délire, le public reprenant en choeur sur l'air des chants de supporters de foot "Liverpool Liverpool Liverpool" alternant avec "Yeah yeah Ian, yeah yeah Ian, yeah yeah Ian" pour finir par chanter "get on the fucking stage" pour les rappels. X tra!
