THE STRANGLERS April 1985 - Zenith - The 'anti heroic' night

The first part performance was assured by a monk in a soutane standing behind a desk, necessarily fanatical, singing hymns to the glory of America and its values, facing the crowds' insults (in fact I didn't understand what he was talking about but for me, it had to be like that). What a provocation! The Strangler's set makes me feel a bit perplex. Not that it was crap but a bit untidy, with I thought, an unsystematic drummer. It's a pity because the feeling was definitely good. JJ Burnel doing his karate like show on stage. This new place called 'le zénith' failed to make a great impression on me was far from full. Finally, the Stranglers stopped playing during a track and started to insult the crowd. They treat us of sad piece of shits unable to reckon they were playing in play back. Yes, they told us they were playing in play back since the beginning and for proof, we heard the last tune with them standing without playing, insulting the crowd even more and laughing to death. Desoriented, shocked the crowd started to doubt as the show starts again. So was it true or not?

En première partie, un moine, forcément intégriste, chante des cantiques à la gloire de l'Amérique et des valeurs qui s'y attachent (en fait je comprend rien à c'qu'il raconte mais pour moi ce sera ça), sous les quolibets du public. Bonjour la provoc! . Je ne sais pas vraiment pourquoi, en attendais je trop? Le concert des Stranglers m'a laissé un peu sur ma faim. Non pas que c'était mauvais, mais peut être un rien brouillon, avec un batteur dont les faiblesses apparaissent au grand jour sur scène et qui y fait pour beaucoup. Dommage, car il y avait vraiment une bonne ambiance. Ah! le jeu de scène de JJ Burnell! Cela bien que le Zénith, qui ne m'a d'ailleurs pas laissé une grande impression, ne soit pas plein et...enfin plein quoi! Finalement les Stranglers arrêteront de jouer au milieu d'un morceau pour nous insulter nous le public. Y nous traite de pauv' merdes même pas capables de reconnaître du play back, car oui ils jouent en play back depuis le début, la preuve ils envoient le morceau qu'ils ont arrêtés et redoublent d'insultes en rigolant. Désorienté, tourneboulé le public hésite...le concert reprend. Ben alors c'était vrai ou pas...?
